Installing Sidekic on Windows
The easy way is Sidekic in the Microsoft Store: it installs and updates itself. This page installs the beta .msix by hand instead. It is signed with Sidekic's own certificate, so Windows needs to trust it once before the app installs. You need Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, and desktop Excel.
The Store app and this .msix are separate apps to Windows; keep only one of them installed.
- Trust Sidekic's certificate (once). Download Sidekic.cer, double-click it, choose Install Certificate → Local Machine → Place all certificates in the following store → Browse → Trusted People, then finish. Windows asks for an administrator's permission.
- Download the Sidekic installer (.msix) and double-click it. Windows' App Installer opens; choose Install. Sidekic starts in the tray (the icon by the clock).
- Sign in from the tray icon's menu with Google, Apple or an email code. Your trial starts when you sign in.
- Get the Excel skills. Press Ctrl+Alt+Space over a workbook in Excel and choose Get Excel skills. They download once.
If App Installer is missing, open PowerShell in the folder you downloaded to and run Add-AppxPackage -Path .\Sidekic-0.1.0-x64.msix.
Removing Sidekic: Settings › Apps › Sidekic › Uninstall. Your workbooks are never touched by installing or removing it.
